Wildness- the pre requisite for sanity…4 ways to call back your wild woman.

Yes we are, why on earth do we try and fool ourselves into thinking that we were made to sit on chairs looking at screens for hours at a time?
Why do we deprive ourselves from our primal knowing and the wild one within?
And why are we surprised at the consequences of this? Of ignoring our natural needs and impulses?
When laziness, apathy, depression, low libido, overwhelm and confusion sets in, it is often because we have lacked to connect to and honour our wildness.
Our animal bodies, our sensual nature, our primal need for connection with earth and spirit, these need to be prioritized in the face of the conditions of the crazy modern world. Really, our wildness is a pre requisite for sanity for when we know our place in our bodies, in the world then we have a firm ground on which to navigate life’s constant challenges.
Nature connection is the great ‘fast track’ back to wildness, the simple act of connecting with the feel of earth beneath our feet will ‘bring us back’ but here are some other fantastic ways to reconnect, to call back the wild woman (or man) and the incredible vitality that she brings.
#1 Rough and tumble.
We think we are all grown up; in fact perhaps we have just become deadened stifled versions of who we really are. A bit of rough and tumble can sort that one out….
Humans, like animals, need to PLAY! We need to enter into that instinctual physical messing around mode, it wakes us up, it loosens us up, it ignites our passion and embodied awareness as free beings only ‘acting’ as responsible humans….
I recently spent time with a man who was happy to wrestle on the ground, roll down hills and laugh like children, It was pure medicine, there is nothing like finding a man who never acts like you are ‘too much’. I got so high on ‘rough and tumble’ that sweet feelings of happiness and freedom started ping ponging through my being. I felt free, a happy little girl, a playful animal. It felt like home.
Rough and tumble is best a shared experience, wrestling, rolling, wriggling, squealing, any playful illogical behavior that is FUN falls under this category, I cannot recommend it enough….find a lover, sister or brother to tease and frolic with.
We all need a bit of ‘rough and tumble’….
#2 Trance dance.
There is nothing, I repeat, nothing, as therapeutic for our wild souls than a good old trance dance. This is basically dance that takes you out of your logical mind and into your animal brain, your sacred sensual knowing.
This is best done in a group of people who share the intention to leave all expectations and judgments and thoughts at the door.
This is potent and can be found in most good ecstatic dance and 5 rhythms classes, and you can also ‘go there’ yourself with an ipod anywhere that you know that you will be undisturbed.
Dance like no one is watching!
The polar opposite of trance dance is the kind of dance where you are trying to look good, whereas in trance dance you simply do not give a shit. It might look good, it might look incredibly unattractive and/or weird,
What matters is that it is authentic,
What matters is that you let go,
What matters is that your primal body knowing is moving you, taking you, clearing out stuck energy to make way for orgasmic rushes of fresh life force energy to flow unhindered through your being, breathing you back into life.
What matters is that your mind is not dictating the show, it takes a back seat as the wild self takes the floor.
The result? Fresh energy and creative inspiration, sensual bliss and a sense of feeling completely at home in your body and in the world.
#3 The illegal walk.
One of my first influential teachers was a woman who could be categorized as a ‘buddhist meditation teacher’ thankfully she is also an ‘undercover wild woman’. She illustrates so well how you can be both respectable and responsible and also, a primal creature making love to life through every pore of your sensual being, in the context of your everyday life.
The wild woman is in wild relationship to all that is through the medium of her body.
She used to speak about ‘the illegal walk’ and this made a lot of sense to me, no one needs to know what you are really up to when you are walking down the street. No matter how you appear on the outside, on the inside you are ‘walking the illegal walk’.
You are feeling the earth energy beneath bubble up into your body, your movements are fluid and sensual, your breath is deep, flowing, spontaneous…. Your limbs are prowling, your senses receptive.
You are a wild animal pounding the pavement in the most juicy way possible.

#4 Wild lovemaking
The worst sex is when you are stuck in your head…would you agree? When I was young this is how it was, it sucked, I was not really there, my wild self had not been woken up from a suburban-childhood-induced slumber.
So when it came to lovemaking unfortunately I just lay there hoping I was doing it right- this is the opposite of wild lovemaking.
In wild lovemaking this mind becomes absorbed into the river of sensation, emotions flow as energy, pain, pleasure, anger, joy, bliss, sadness, all is welcome, flowing unchecked in the river of feeling and all has the space to be expressed through movement and sound.
Wild lovemaking is not unconscious animal sex that races towards a goal… it is super conscious in that our entire experience becomes a natural expression of spontaneous life energy. We dive in, there is no longer a ‘me’ or a ‘you’ it is wild energy in motion- and this is medicine for the soul, so potent that it can take us further and deeper than anything else, provided that we have the awareness and intention to engage with the intense feelings that can arise and hold a sacred space for unconditional love and acceptance.
At different times in our lives we have the opportunity to engage with these different expressions of wildness, some involve a partner, some will be between life and ourselves.
The important thing is that we make the time and space for wildness in our everyday lives.
It can be as simple as stretching your limbs out like a jungle cat or growling like a lion to express and release your frustration. Find what works for you, and do it, not as an exception, but as a rule, as a prescription for sanity.
Today I woke up feeling all gluggy, tiring dreams, emotional ‘stuff’ coming up, feeling cloudy, tense,disconnected…..
I knew I had to get outside, feel wind on my skin, sun on my face, earth presence under my feet. The medicine of feeling apart of the natural world.
So I got on a bike, rode it fast along a river side path, then I stopped and prayed, i shook out tension and re-affirmed my connection to the greater whole, my wild woman awoke and I remembered why I am here and what I need to do.
Never under estimate the necessity of wildness…
